New video Parasite-project: Research in Action!

This movie was shot on Friday 29 June 2012 near Kyela in Mbeya District during a participatory farmer exercise which forms part of the PhD-research of Mwalimu Menza.

Video and mp3 on integrated striga control

The website contains many interesting video and audio programs on a wide range of agricultural topics such as on: Integrated Striga Control (mp3).

Short description:

The parasitic weed striga causes more damage to cereal crops in poor soils, so both problems have to be tackled together. In this video we will learn why it is important to combine at least three control methods to reduce striga and obtain a good yield of sorghum, millet, maize or rice.

The War on Weeds

In this video Jonne Rodenburg elaborates on The War on Weeds that is the central theme in the Parasite project.

In his search for a solution to the problem of weeds that limit African rice production, Jonne Rodenburg works at many levels, from genetic research to production systems. One of his findings is that farmers' practices and considerations must be included in crop and weed management strategies. There is no silver bullet or one-size-fits-all solution.
